He presented at several international conferences and published in a respected journal. He continued his studies at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Sciences graduating on the Dean’s Honour List. He received the OSI Award for Excellence in Practice Management.

During his studies, on conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, he received extensive training in the treatment and management of, as well as performing pre- and post-operative surgical care. In Brampton, Vaughan, and Newmarket he also completed primary care externships with optometrists focusing on dry eye disease and contact lenses. Dr. Vafaie is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists as well as the Ontario Association of Optometrists.
